Microsoft retires the TechNet Subscriptions Service

On TN TechNet Subscriptions and Licensing has been announced that Microsoft retires the Technet subscriptions Service. The major reason is that there is move from payed to free evaluation software.

The next timetable applies:

  • 31 August 2013:
    Last day to purchase a Technet Subscription through the ThechNet subscription website.
  • 30 September 2013:
    Last day to activate the account.
  • 30 September 2014:
    Last day to use Technet Subscription.
    Please note that this may vary on when you activated your Technet Subscription. Your experation date can be found under ‘MyAccount’.

Microsoft mention MSDN as an alternative. My personal opinion is that it is not a real alternative. You pay much more for less software.
